King Fahad Hospital,
Al-Baha is already accredited by the Saudi Commission for Health
Specialties as training center for postgraduate programs of Saudi
Board / Arab Board in the 4 main departments namely Pediatrics,
General Surgery, Internal Medicine, and Obstetrics & Gynecology.
These programs are completely accredited in the hospital and no need
for the candidate to move into any other hospital for complete his
training requirements. Urology department is processing
accreditation process that may be finalized by the next academic
year.
Pediatrics Program:
This is a 4 years
residency program fully accredited by the Arab Board of Pediatrics
since 1991 and the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) since
1996 up to date. The program is designed to prepare residents for
their role as a Pediatric Specialists and Consultants. It contains a
variety of scientific daily activities which include: Lectures, Case
presentations and discussions, grand rounds, X-Ray sessions, journal
club and tutorials.
Pediatrics department
accommodates variety of facilities for training including general
Pediatrics ward with a total of 30 beds, Pediatric Intensive Care
Unit (PICU) with 6 beds, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) that is
one of the largest of its type in the Kingdom with 30 beds in the
nursery and another 30 incubators, in addition to Pediatric
emergency rooms can accommodate up to 6 children at a time.
Residents are rotated around all these Pediatric sections during
their training period according to the recommendations of the Saudi
Council.

Internal Medicine
Program:
Department of
Internal Medicine at King Fahad Hospital is recognized by the SCFHS for year 1 and year 2
Residency Training leading to Saudi Board & Arab Board in Internal
Medicine. This program is supported with state of
the Art Radiology
Department, Laboratory and Endoscopy setup and highly qualified
staff in all medical subspecialties including Cardiology,
Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Hematology, Neurology, Nephrology,
Rheumatology, Pulmonology, Dermatology,
and Psychiatry.
The scientific program
of the department includes daily one hour morning educational
activity attended by all department staff in addition to daily
bedside teaching and clinical rounds by respective specialty team,
following is the schedule for this morning meeting:
Saturday
: Journal Club by Residents
Sunday
: Radiology case presentations (1st Sunday: Mortality Meeting)
Monday
: Case Presentation by Residents/Specialists
Tuesday
: Morning Consultant Lecture & afternoon grand round.
Wednesday: Case
Presentation by Residents/Specialists

Obstetrics &
Gynecology Program:
The department is
recognized by Royal College of Obstetrics & Gynecology since 1991
and has been recently recognized by the SCFHS as a training centre for Saudi Board and Arab Board. The
department contains variety of subspecialties including reproductive
endocrinology, feto-maternal medicine, and gynecological oncology.
All types of Laparoscopic and Hysteroscopic procedures are being
carried out. The department
runs a busy clinic for family planning & owns a highly sophisticated ultrasound machines which can discover
the congenital abnormalities.

General Surgery
Program:
General Surgery
Department was recognized for training by the Saudi Board since
2006. The program can accommodate up to 2 candidates/year and
capable of training up to level R3.
Available surgical
subspecialties include orthopedic unit which is going to be a
separate department soon, Neurosurgical department with 2
consultants, Urology department that may be soon recognized for
training by the Saudi Board, Pediatric surgery, Plastic and
Cardiothoracic units. Training for laparoscopic surgery is one of
the main tasks of training in the surgery department.

Urology
Program:
Crowning its excellent
performance and staff members' commitment and outstanding efforts in
patient services and educational activities, urology department was
accredited by Saudi Commission for Health specialties as training
center in southern region of the kingdom for the coming 2 years.
This was announced by Dr. Daifalla Al-Ghamdi, Head of Urology
Department and Deputy Chief of Health Affairs in Al-Baha.
